A quick little blog I wrote comparing myself to Charlie Brown and what that means.

Just finished playing Dragon Age 2. Now to create a new character in Dragon Age Origins, so I can then start another new character in Dragon Age 2. I need professional help. Or some new games.

I don’t like to dwell on negative reviews, but all the negative reviews I’ve read about Cabin in the Woodshave really missed the point. I thought it was a brilliant movie and really unique. People seem to think it’s a movie ABOUT kids fighting zombies, even after they’ve seen it. And I’m just like “no”.

This show is officially my newBuffy The VampireSlayer. As in, I am completely obsessed and I want it to run forever. The finales are always epic and this was no exception. Highlights (and SPOILERS) include:
-Oh Mira, damn. Guess you couldn’t kick ass forever, but thought you’d get more screen time in the finale.
-Ashur finally falls, and Naevia finally get to do something exciting. It took me forever to get used to this new actress, but that battle definitely won some great brownie points. Plus it’s about time Ashur bit it, he caused a lot of deaths in his three years on the show (still cranky about Barca).
-The character of Spartacus has changed a lot from season 1, and I don’t mean just the new actor. I liked season one’s trapped Spartacus trying to survive slavery and somehow hurt those that wronged him. This season’s war leader Spartacus got to do some fun shit but also got really talk-y. Hopefully in the next season they’ll tone down the speeches and get back to him as a character. And maybe he’ll keep a woman.
-Oenomaus…ah. That one really hurt. I’m happy I don’t have to look at the eye injury anymore, but really I’d rather Gannicus had bit it instead, mostly because I prefer Oenomaus as a character and Peter Mensah as an actor. And thank god that ugly-ass Egyptian is dead. Yuck.
-It’s clear that next season we’ll get some fresh Big Bads, since all the evil from the first two seasons got wiped out. While Glaber never matched the evil yet sympathetic niche that I felt for Batiatus, he did get some extra “crazy” points near the end. And it turns out Lucretia was crazy after all, and I’ll really miss Lucy Lawless from this show. And most of all, I’m gonna miss my dear sweet Ilithya, a character I always enjoyed watching and Viva Bianca was fantastic when she played her. I guess she could still live (like how Lucretia did last season), but as much as I love her, there wouldn’t be much a point in saving her. Looking forward to a new batch of Romans, and I hope they give us some strong female characters to replace the ones we lost.
-You know who hasn’t had a whole lot to do this season? Crixus. There was the arena thing and the mines but after that he’s just kinda been hanging around.
-I was on Gay Watch all episode, thinking they’d be tragically torn apart. Happy to report that Nagron lives on, at least for now.
So there we have it. Tomorrow is the Shameless finale, which I’m also excited for. Then I just have to wait however long it’ll take for a new season of Spartacus. It won’t be soon enough, I know that much.

Countless hours spent on youtube have led me to this conclusion: I want to be more like Julia Sugarbaker.

To those of you who may not know (damn kids with your MTV), Julia Sugarbaker was a character on an 80’s-90’s sitcom calledDesigning Women. She was played by the late great Dixie Carter, who passed away almost two years ago.
Julia worked with three other women in a design firm in Georgia. Through the show’s run, she became infamous for her powerful speeches. With her striking figure, her elegant yet forceful way of speaking, and her rationalizing attitude, Julia would constantly take down any idiot or bigot who dared to offend her. Whether the subject be AIDS discrimination, feminism, or a crude remark about her sister, Julia “The Terminator” would take them down with grace yet always leave them bleeding (metaphorically).
Now, I’m not quite close to ever being like Julia Sugarbaker. I am probably about the same height, so there’s a good start. I also have a knack for sarcasm. And, on occasion, I will lapse into a Southern Drawl (actually, all my accents sound the same so this may not count). But I lack her confidence and her bravery, and her ability to not back down when someone is intimidating her. These are traits I hope will come to me with age. I’m still young enough that I consider older people “grown ups” and when they scold me I feel like I’ve done something wrong, even though said “grown ups” are probably just being assholes.
What I most envy about Julia is that she always knew just what to say to make her point. I’m not stupid, I know she was a fictional character and had a staff of writers plot out her speeches. But still, there are people who have solid arguments at the ready and know just the right phrasings to make themselves seem smarter than their opponent. I am not so prepared. When I debate with people (granted, not a common occurrence) I usually end up thinking in the car ride home “Damn, I should have said THAT”.
Take example something that happened to me, but I’m going to exaggerate for dramatic effect to make my point. At my work a man asked me for a Sprite. I said we only had Sierra Mist. He seemed confused, and when I poured him his drink he said “I’ve never heard of that”.
I wanted to say “Really?!? Really. You’ve NEVER heard of Sierra Mist? It’s been around for ten years. Literally, ten years ago they came out with Sierra Mist, Pepsi’s answer to Sprite. Have you not been to a restaurant or a grocery store or a vending machine in TEN YEARS? Does your wife do the grocery shopping for you? Do you just order alcohol everywhere you go? Do you not watch television and see commercials for Sierra Mist ON TV? It’s not even Sierra Mist anymore, it’s Sierra MistNatural. This product has been around so long they made it “healthier” and discontinued the original. How incredible that, had they not kept going with Sierra Mist Natural, you would never have learned of this in the first place. A whole DECADE would have been spent with Sierra Mist and you wouldn’t be any wiser about it. People would say “oh, remember Sierra Mist?” and you’d say “What is sierra mist?” and gone back to sipping your Mountain Dew. That’ll be two bucks for this new experience you’re having. Enjoy”.
I didn’t say that.
Mostly because being a Julia Sugarbaker means saying shit like that when someone is an asshole to you. And though this man was ignorant, he wasn’t an asshole.
So…I suppose my point is I’m gonna work on my confidence and my long-winded rants. Most of them will go unsaid, and will probably go down in writing. But maybe one day I’ll be able to unleash them on the public. Starting with the people who don’t know about soft drinks…
Next time I do one of these I’m doing them all at once. They’re too stupid to be drug out like this.
Day 6: 2 Favorite Other fight scenes
Ilithyia killing Licinia in “Whore”
Aurelia killing Numerius in “Kill Them All”
Apparently I’m a sucker for when women are pushed to their violent edges? Although in Aurelia’s case, it was pretty justified. Ilithyia however…she just crazy.

Day 7:2 Favorite Sex Scenes
Barca and Auctus were good, not that it was very graphic but it was very heated.
Ilithyia and Glaber also have good sex scenes. I’d post pictures or something, but really, I don’t wish to. Use your imaginations.
There, 7 days in 4 posts. good for me.
